Essential Oils for Babies and Children
By Fatma Zaidi

Essential oils changed the life of my family. It has been such an empowering tool for everyday ailments. It has helped my children with ear infections, colds, flus, tummy aches, body aches as well as calming and soothing them in hectic times and in many more ways. Here I have listed some ways I have used these oils. I especially recommend Young Living therapeutic grade Essential oils. Children have a natural attraction to essential oils and will really enjoy being treated with them.

Essential oils are a wonderful tool for all ailments of babies and children.
Place 2 drops of essential oil (try Lavender or Peace & Calming) on a tissue and keep it nearby when you are feeding your baby. Use this scent at night to help him sleep. You can also leave this oil with anybody else who takes cares of your baby to soothe and comfort.

Children love having baths. Add 4 drops after having filled the bath tub with water. Peace & Calming, Lavender, Roman Chamomile and orange are some oils that help to soothe a anxious child and help prepare for a restful sleep. I benefitted too because they would go into the bath as cranky children and emerge little as little angels.

Use the oils in a diffuser during a party. Children love essential oils. Choose happy scents. Citrus Fresh will uplift while Peace and Calming will soothe a bunch of active kids.

Citrus oils can be used as natural cleaning agents around the house. Simply add a few drops of Orange, Lemon, Bergamot or Grapefruit oil to water, moisten a clean cloth with the mixture and wipe down cupboards, floors, bags, toys etc. Or try the Thieves spray or Cleaning solution. They have a 99.96 %antibacterial activity. You can rest assured that your child is not exposed to toxic cleaning products.

Scent children's nighttime clothing with Lavender and Chamomile essential oils applied. Apply a drop or tow in the palms of your hands, rub your hands together and wipe over their pyjamas.

Put 1 drop Lavender on your shoulder and rock the baby to sleep while the baby's head rest on your shoulder or rub a drop of Peace and Calming on their feet.

My children love a hand, foot or back massage. I choose an organic carrier oil such as olive oil or coconut oil. Recommended essential oils: Peace and Calming, Gentle Baby, Lavender, Roman Chamomile and Valor. Add 2 drops of an essential oil to a tablespoon of carrier oil and gently massage your child. They will not want you to stop.

At the first sign of a stuffy nose place 1 drop of RC or Raven on the corner of your pillow. This can sometimes even stop a cold from coming on. You can also add 4 drops to a bath or add 2 drops to a carrier oil and massage their chest and back.

For colds and coughs, diffuse RC or Raven, put a drop on the tops or pillows or use as above to massage their backs.

A soothing ritual for families is to diffuse or apply Gentle Baby, Peace and Calming, Lavender, Roman Chamomile, Citrus Fresh or Tangerine everyday.

Essential oils are a wonderful tool for all ailments of babies and children. You will really come to appreciate the benefits of these powerful therapeutic grade essential oils.
